We just started a new book that we’re going through on Sunday mornings for Jesus time @ nine called Wild Goose Chase.  I have been chewing on this book (only semi-literally) for about 6months, and now that we’re going through it as a group, I’m as stoked as a wood stove.  I was even more excited when we did sign ups for either the book or the study guide, and everyone wanted the book.  I went back through the first chapter to prep for this Sunday, and I have to say that Mark Batterson is a real writer.  He doesn’t mozy too much.  And every line of the chapter is in there for a reason.  All the fluff is edited out.  It is thoroughly enjoyable.  At the same time though, it is challenging me to get off my rocker.  Much the same way that Million Miles did, but with a little HS punch in the gut.  Click Read More to see some of my favorite quotes from the first chapter.  Here are my favorite quotes from the first chapter in order of appearance:

  • pg2 – intellectual analysis usually results in spiritual paralysis
  • pg4 – instead of serving God’s purposes, we want Him to serve our purposes.
  • pg5 – I wonder if churches do to people what zoos do to animals.
  • pg6 – Jesus died to make us dangerous
  • pg6 – When was the last time you paid for God to make you dangerous?
  • pg7 – You cannot simultaneously live by faith and be bored.
  • pg8 – I think there was a deep-seated longing within him for something more than simply not doing anything wrong.
  • pg8 – many, if not most, Christians are bored with their faith.
  • pg11 – When you lack the courage to chase the Wild Goose, the opportunity costs are staggering.
  • pg12 – As we age, many of us stop believing and start assuming.
  • pg13 – we need to start playing offense with our lives.
